Defense cards seem like a necessity in this game as there are plenty of positive attacks, attacks, and group attacks. Sexy Jutsu only showed Naruto’s girly face vs body in poof of smoke. Many of the artwork probably wasn’t the best of choices ie. Not the biggest fan of the choices of starting characters, or the use of Naruto’s image for weakness, vulnerability, and punch. Chakra adds some complexity to the game and an additional need to keep track of two forms of currencies. This is a sample few cards of what you get in the purchase (Naruto, Sakura, Kakashi, Jiraiya, Shikamaru, Hinata, and Killer Bee are the guaranteed starting character cards as Minato and Mecha-Naruto are promo and potentially hard to come by): Just these small additions caused quite a stir in the pace of the game and extra need of counting and keeping track of things like how much power and chakra you have in a turn. The key differences are the chakra points on the character cards, the hand signs, and finally the positive attacks. If you have played any of Cryptozoic’s “Cerberus” engine deck building games, this one is VERY similar but adds some slight twists that make the game more hectic, but fun. Being a fan of the Naruto anime, but not the fillers, I felt this game did enough justice to cover up to the Pain segment of the anime.
